Irish Government Biofuel Obligation Rates Update

The Irish government biofuel obligation rates will increase from 1st January 2023. The biofuel obligation scheme is changing from an obligation based on volume to an obligation based on the energy content of fossil fuels.

From 2023 the obligation percentage will be 16.895% of fossil fuels by energy, increasing from the existing 13% by volume. In addition, there is now a requirement that 0.3% of this total percentage must be made up with advanced biofuels.

Better Energy Levy will increase from 0.12cpl to 0.80cpl from 1st January 2023. NORA Levy remains at the reduced rate of 0.10cpl until 28th February 2023 on all fuel grades.
