The National Fleet Database contains the insurance details for all motor vehicles operating under fleet type insurance policies in Ireland. Insurance details relating to these vehicles had to be uploaded to the database by Friday 30th November 2023.
What Is The National Fleet Database?
The National Fleet Database is a online system that contains the insurance details of all vehicles in Ireland that have fleet type insurance policies. It is being introduced to help An Garda Síochána identify vehicles that hold valid insurance policies as they battle against illegal and uninsured driving.
What Vehicles Does This Apply To?
Generally the types of vehicles that have fleet insurance are buses and coaches, construction vehicles, delivery vans, transport and logistical operations, utility vehicles, hire cars and service vehicles. Also included are vehicles operated by retailers, service providers and food and takeaway deliveries.
This represents around 250,000 vehicles and approximately 8% of vehicles using Irish roads.
When Did The National Fleet Database Begin?
Vehicles had to be be submitted to the online database by Friday 30th November 2023. It is a legal requirement and those who do not comply could be fined up to €500.00.
Vehicles not registered risk as being identified as driving without insurance.
