What is Driver ID?
Driver ID provides the ability to identify which driver is driving which vehicle and produce all the relevant driver and vehicle information reports associated. To support this, each driver requires a fob to be registered to them which connects with the reader which is fitted inside the vehicle. This enables all existing Velocity reports to be run by either vehicle or driver and produce individual reports.
How does Driver ID work?
A tag reader is attached to the dashboard of your vehicle and each driver is assigned a fob that they use to login when they enter the vehicle. This is done by placing the fob over the reader which registers the driver and records the information for that trip, which is specific to that driver. When the ignition is turned on the buzzer will sound until the driver logs in by placing the fob over the reader.
Why would I need it?
There are several benefits of choosing to use Driver ID Fobs for your vehicles;
- Working hours and timesheets for each driver
- Journey history reports specific to each driver
- Driver performance reports specific to each driver
- Ensure the right driver is on duty
By having access to individual driver performance reports you will know which drivers are best and worst, and be able to take appropriate action to improve driver performance. It is beneficial to know these Telematics and GPS Vehicle Tracking metrics as a driver who has a low performance score is costing you more and by improving their score not only will they be driver safer, they will also reduce your annual fuel and maintenance costs.
What equipment do you need?
To enable Driver ID, users must have at least one of each component;
- 1 Reader
- 1 Buzzer
- 1 Harness
- 2 Fobs
What does each piece of equipment do?
- Reader – fitted inside the vehicle and used to read the serial number of each fob to obtain driver information
- Buzzer – fitted inside the vehicle and will sound until the fob is connected to the reader
- Harness – the wire is used to connect all of the components together
- Fob – used by drivers to login to the vehicle
How do you set up Driver ID Fobs?
Driver ID is an add on provided with Fuelwise Telematics, we have two systems which are suitable for fleets of all sizes. Kinesis provides a powerful insight and data into a range of fleet metrics from driver behaviour to vehicle performance, whereas ATOM eliminates vehicle down-time as the device to be moved from one vehicle to another.
After signing up for Fuelwise Telematics, you will receive an activation email from Velocity. On there, you simply add your vehicles and drivers and once your fobs arrive by post, you assign each driver their fob.
Where do I access my driver reports?
All of your vehicle and driver data is accessed on Velocity Fleet, an industry leading management tool which enables you to manage all aspects of your Fuelwise account. Access to Velocity is free and you can manage Fuel Cards, Telematics, Cameras and Vehicle Checks.
