Vehicle Walkaround Checks are mandatory by law in both the UK and Ireland, and have been for many years. They were introduced to ensure that vehicles are road safety compliant and should be carried out before the start of every journey.

What Are Vehicle Walkaround Checks?
Vehicle Walkaround Checks involve carrying out checks on both the interior and exterior of the vehicle and reporting any defects that they discover. The DVLA advises that this is to ensure your vehicle is safe to drive.
For a large number of companies vehicle checks still involve using paper which can build up very quickly. Our system is fully integrated with Velocity Fleet, which removes the need for paper as checks are stored securely online.
Features
The features available within the system are very flexible and can be customised to suit every type of business or vehicle. Below are some of the features available;
- Manage Questions – customise your questions to suit your vehicle or industry
- Manager Dashboard – reports from the previous 15 days organised by vehicle
- Alerts – receive alerts by email whenever a vehicle fails a check
- Mobile App – complete checks and upload photos of defects
Vehicle Check App
The Vehicle Check App is linked with Velocity Fleet and available to download from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Using the app drivers can complete their checks and submit photographic evidence of any defects. These are uploaded directly to the manager dashboard in Velocity.
Logging into the app couldn’t be easier. Once the Fleet Manager has added their vehicles and driver details (Name, Contact Number and Email Address) to Velocity, each driver will be emailed a unique code that they use to login. After logging in, drivers can select their vehicle and start their checks.
Vehicle Check Dashboard
Fleet Managers are responsible for overseeing the management of Vehicle Checks and the entire process can be carried out from the Dashboard.
You can add drivers and vehicles and keep up to date with the latest checks carried out. It is easy to find out the number of completed checks and how many of these had defects. The Fleet Manager can also view photographic evidence of defects which are submitted by drivers.
The manager also has the ability to edit questions. Every account has a set of predefined questions for cars, vans and HGVS. You can customise these and add or remove questions as you wish. For example, if your fleet includes plant machinery, you can edit the questions to suit this type of vehicle.
Due Dates Dashboard
The Due Dates Dashboard is viewable to the Fleet Manager and allows you to see all upcoming due dates. The options you can include are Annual Test Date, Tax Due Date, Service Due Date and Insurance Due Dates.
These dates are entered when you first add your vehicles to the system and you can create alerts. For example, you can create an alert for one month before your insurance is due.
The due dates are also colour coded so you can easily identify your upcoming due dates.
Fuel Card and Telematics Integrations
We believe in providing one system for everything, we know how difficult it can be to manage multiple logins and passwords for different accounts. That’s why we have built one system called Velocity Fleet which enables Fleet Managers to keep control of Fuel Cards, Telematics, Vehicle Cameras and Vehicle Walkaround Checks in one place.
Other providers charge for the use of a Vehicle Walkaround Check app, for example the RHA charge £35.00+Vat (members) or £45.00+Vat (non members), per driver/user per annum.
We provide the system for free with all Fuelwise accounts.
